This year marks a huge milestone for us at Edwards Surfacing – 20 years in business as a proud, family-run asphalt surfacing company based in Buckinghamshire. What began in 2006 as one man’s ambition, working from a small portacabin, has grown into a trusted company delivering high-quality roads, driveways, car parks and public spaces across Buckinghamshire, London, the South East and beyond.
The story starts with our founder Ken Edwards, who decided in 2005 to realise a lifelong ambition and start his own surfacing business after more than 30 years in the paving industry. With the support of his wife Diane and encouragement from long-time friend and accountant James Birch, Edwards Surfacing was born. From day one, the company proudly carried the family name – and it truly became a family affair.
The company logo was designed by a neighbour, Nick Thomas, featuring a burgundy, grey, and white scheme that has remained instantly recognisable on our crew’s uniform and equipment to this day.

How the brand developed

Ken’s sons Simon and Peter Edwards joined the business in its earliest days, helping to build the foundations both on site and in the office. While Peter helped establish the admin and business processes, Simon worked out on the tools, learning the craft first-hand. That hands-on experience still shapes the business today, with Simon now leading the company as Managing Director. Over the years, many familiar faces have been part of the journey, including Ken’s youngest son Mark, and a loyal site team who quickly became part of the extended Edwards Surfacing family.
One of the defining moments in our early history came just months after opening, when Edwards Surfacing was awarded the asphalt surfacing works at the new Wembley Stadium. It was a huge challenge for such a young company, involving tight deadlines, large quantities of asphalt and immense pressure on a world-famous project. Successfully delivering Wembley proved what the business was capable of and played a major role in setting us on a path of sustained growth.
Our Growing Reputation
As the company grew, so did our reputation. From local driveways, schools and village footpaths to large commercial car parks and estate roads, we became known for doing things properly – with care, integrity and pride in our workmanship. In 2008, we moved from the original portacabin into our permanent home at Great Horwood, where we remain today, alongside a growing fleet of vehicles and equipment proudly carrying our burgundy and grey livery.
Twenty years on, Edwards Surfacing is still very much a family business, supported by a close-knit, experienced team. Many of our staff have been with us for years, some from the very beginning – something we’re incredibly proud of. That continuity means our clients benefit from experienced crews who genuinely care about the quality of the finished job, whether it’s a small residential driveway or a major commercial development.
Going from strength to strength

That continuity means our clients benefit from experienced crews who genuinely care about the quality of the finished job, whether it’s a small residential driveway or a major commercial development.
We’re also proud of the role we play in our local community, improving roads, car parks and public spaces that people use every day. We value the long-standing relationships we’ve built with homeowners, businesses, councils and developers who return to us time and again because they trust us to deliver.
Reaching 20 years in this industry is no small achievement, and we couldn’t have done it without our customers, team, partners and suppliers. Your trust and support have been the foundation of our success, and we’re genuinely grateful to every single person who’s been part of the journey.
